Buyers looking for a premium hatchback usually land up having to choose between the top two cars in the segment – the Maruti Swift and Hyundai i20. Both the cars are loaded with features. But how do they stack up against each other? Maruti Suzuki Swift is one of the most popular car .
Here’s a look as how the i20 and the Swift compare with each other.
When it comes to styling choices, it is pretty difficult choosing between the Swift and i20 because both are good looking cars. The new Swift with its longer swept back head lamps, flared fenders, and a new boot design gives the car a sporty look. With its distinctly European styling influences, the i20 has always been a presence on the road. However, the rear of the i20 is not that attractive when compared to the other parts of the car.
What gets the i20 an edge over the Swift is that it has little more space to offer. If you compare the interiors, the Swift has a completely refreshed look, though it feels a bit cramped because of the dark grey plastics. The instrumental panel looks good with a multi-info display in the center. The central console borrows its style from the Kizashi giving the car a first-class feel. Front seat comfort is good, but rear seats could do with a little more space.
The i20, on the other hand has a more airy feel with its chocolate brown and beige interiors. The rear seats are definitely more comfortable than the Swift. The instrument panel design is simple and straightforward with blue backlighting. What the i20 offers more off are features like the power folding mirrors which is one feature not seen in the Swift. All round disk break is another feature that the top end i20 offers.
Both the top end variants of the Swift and i20 are equipped with dual airbag, steering audio control, height adjustable seats and automatic climate control. When it comes to luggage room, the i20 with its split folding rear seats offers more room that the Swift and can hold up to 290 L of luggage, while the Swift can carry only 205 L, ironically lower than the older Swift.
The Swift, both in petrol and diesel, offers a sporty ride and is a more driver oriented car.
The petrol i20 is either powered by a 1.2L Kappa engine (80 PS at 114 Nm torque) or 1.4L engine (100 PS at 139 Nm) mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. The i20 CRDi diesel engine (90 PS at 224 Nm) comes with a six-speed manual transmission.
The Swift comes with 1.2 litre petrol (86 bhp and 114 Nm) and the 1.3 litre diesel (74 bhp at 190 Nm) engines.
The other hot selling car in the Indian market is Toyota Etios Cross at price 5.7 lakh onwards.
